The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) is the women’s fund that provides financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies that promote women’s human rights, political participation and economic security. UNIFEM is guided by its Strategic Business Plan (SBP) with the objective of contributing to the realization of African women’s empowerment towards poverty eradication, gender inequality and all forms of human insecurity in both stable and fragile states. Placing the realization of women’s human rights and security is at the centre of all its efforts.
UNIFEM Southern Africa and the Indian Oceans Regional Office (herewith referred to as UNIFEM SRO) covers 14 countries. These are: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Mozambique, Mauritius, Malawi, Madagascar, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe. UNIFEM builds its Sub Regional Strategy and annual Work plan on a clear understanding of the situation experienced by women in each of the countries of the region. For this reason, a thorough review of the current challenges and opportunities is annually undertaken. The obtained findings are the basic information that will inform an important component of the regional planning. This year, a preliminary research has been prepared by UNIFEM Southern Africa. However, a review of this document with incorporation of consolidated and final contents is now necessary in order to obtain a definitive version, which will be used to justify and inform 2010 UNIFEM SARO annual workplan. In this light, the services of a consultant are sought to develop a final document with a country analysis for each of the fourteen (14) countries covered by UNIFEM Southern Africa. Find out more
