UN-HABITAT: Urban Arts and Youth Summit (Nairobi, Kenya)

November 30th, 2009 admin Leave a comment Go to comments

An Urban Arts and Youth summit will be held at the UN headquarters in Nairobi on 30 November 2009. The Summit brings together national and international artists, representatives of arts foundations, the private sector and young people active in the arts to consult on the contribution that the arts make to sustainable urban development. More specifically, the summit will focus on the role that the arts play in youth empowerment, employment, social cohesion, urban security and the strengthening of local urban culture.

The outcomes of the Summit will also contribute towards the background paper for the discussion on UN-HABITAT’s “Messengers of Truth Programme” at the Fifth Session of the World Urban Forum. The discussions will engage urban planners and policy makers in a dialogue on how artists can address the ever increasing urban challenges.
