The Global Youth Advisory Panel, which consists of twenty two young people from all over the world met in New York from 4-6 November 2009 to advise UNFPA on its youth programme and activities for the upcoming year. The panel acts as a mechanism to promote dialogue between UNFPA and young people and as a way for UNFPA to seek advice from young people on the strategic areas it works on.
Highlights of the meeting included discussions on Climate Change, as that is the theme of the 2009 UNFPA State of the World Population Report, the UN Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education and the proposal of the Mexican Government to host a World Youth Conference in August, 2010. The recommendations of the panel adress a wide range of issues and will guide the work of UNFPA’s youth programme in the coming year.
