Senior Research Assistant: Australian Embassy

The Australian Embassy, Harare, is seeking applications from persons interested in employment in the Political Section.  Employment will be based on a 2 year contract, subject to completing a satisfactory three month probationary period. After completing the 2 year contract and subject to satisfactory performance, a further contract may be offered.

Duty Statement
-    Monitor daily press and other open sources of information concerning political and economic situation within Zimbabwe
-    Undertake research on political and economic issues within Zimbabwe, and draft reports and briefs on such matters as directed
-    Supervise work of experienced local research officer
-    Manage public affairs program.

Selection Criteria
1. Appropriate educational history including University degree with good results, and demonstrated work experience in field of politics/international relations.  Economics studies would be an advantage.
2. High level written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated ability draft clear concise reports on complex subject matters without supervision.
3. Demonstrated staff management experience.
4. High level ability to organise workloads, allocate resources effectively and set priorities while maintaining high quality and quantity of work.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated maturity, flexibility, initiative, discretion and a commitment to working as part of a team.
6. Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
