UNRISD is now accepting applications for a two-month internship position to begin in September 2010 in the Social Policy and Development programme (SPD). Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD degree programme (as per UN Secretariat rules regarding interns) in economics, sociology, political science or a related field from an accredited university and have academic and professional experience in issues related to social policy and poverty in developing countries. Written and spoken fluency in English is essential. We are especially interested in candidates with a strong expertise in pension policy in developing countries. While at UNRISD, the intern will be asked to:
- assist with background research on a project on social pensions in Asia
- assist in preparing a book manuscript (edited volume) on pension reform in a development context;
- assist in the drafting of new research proposals for the future UNRISD research agenda 2010-2015;
- conduct library and Internet searches;
- contribute to ongoing working tasks related to project management, fundraising activities, external relations, or event organization;
- produce a short draft paper, literature review, article or another similar output, on a subject related to ageing, old-age poverty and pension policies in developing countries
The deadline for applications is Sunday 29 August 2010 (Midnight, Central European Time) and the start date will be as soon as possible. The usual duration of the internship is two months, with the possibility of extension of up to two additional months.
