The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) with its Family AIDS Initiative (FAI) implementing partners and in collaboration with the National PMTCT Unit of the MOHCW AIDS and TB programme, seeks to support virtual elimination of pediatric HIV in Zimbabwe. This will be done using the implementation of the WHO 2010 PMTCT guideline as a catalyst. EGPAF has moblised resources to provide further PMTCT program support to all health districts in the country and to optimise programme implementation where EGAPF is already providing direct PMTCT site support with its FAI partners. All implementation will be guided by national health strategy.

Job Summary

The Database Officer is a key member of EGPAF-Zimbabwe’s Strategic Information and Evaluation team responsible for management of the organisation’s strategic information database systems including a patient tracking database to be developed and installed at selected sites and indicator databases as well as capacity building site level staff and other EGPAF staff utilization of the database.

Essential duties and responsibilities
– Ensure that Electronic Medical record (EMR) system (patient tracking database) installed at selected PMTCT sites in the country is functioning
– Participate in the training of all the varying users of the ERM in MOH at site and district level on the management and utilization of the EMR
– Maintain data security and integrity policies and measures to secure the data collected and stored in the database system
– Provide technical backstopping to data clerks at site level on the database system
– Participate in regular data quality checks conducted on the EMR and implement measures instituted to improve data quality in the EMR at all levels from site to national
– Participate in the implementation of plans developed to address data quality challenges identified on the EMR system
– Participate in periodic supportive and supervisory visits to sites to review the status of the EMR and compile comprehensive feedback reports
– Contribute to documentation of lessons learned on the use of the EMR through technical reports and abstracts
– Participate in the training of partners and health workers in monitoring and evaluation in relation to the EMR
– Contribute in compiling of quarterly reports, annual reports and other reports requested by management, donors and stakeholders from time to time using data from the EMR
– Provide supervisory support to the Data Entry Clerks at site levels
– Perform other relevant duties assigned by the SIE Manager and Database Manager

Qualifications
Degree or Higher National Diploma in Computer Science
Minimum 3 years’ working experience in a similar position

Knowledge, skills and attributes
– Demonstrated expertise and experience in management of patient level databases in a national programme
– Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
– Ability to travel locally approximately 50% of the time
– Ability to work effectively as member of a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment
