Campaign: Kindness Rising
The Kindness Rising campaign calls on youth to BE FEARLESS BE KIND, by standing up for others, being inclusive, and making a difference. Through service projects or kind acts, young people develop empathy, learn powerful life skills and can be the catalysts to keep Kindness Rising!
The Kindness Rising campaign is powered by YSA’s #LeadASAP initiative and is sponsored by Hasbro’s philanthropic initiative, BE FEARLESS BE KIND.
How does it work?
From October 4th through December 20th, educators, youth program leaders, caring adults, and youth are encouraged to visit http://YSA.org/KindnessRising where they can take the BE FEARLESS BE KIND pledge on behalf of themselves or their class or group, put that pledge into action through service projects and kind acts, and show the impact of their work to be eligible for grants.
For each person who takes the BE FEARLESS BE KIND pledge, Hasbro will donate a toy or game to Toys for Tots for up to 300,000 children in need this holiday season. Plus, participants who complete a service can show their impact at http://YSA.org/KindnessRising to be eligible for grants. Ten participants will receive a $250 grant. Here are the steps:
Who can participate?
Youth of all ages and the caring adults in their lives can participate! The Kindness Rising site cannot collect identifying information from a young person under the age of 13. Youth under the age of 13 can participate by asking an adult to register on their behalf.
Why should youth participate?
Kindness is rising. We can see examples of it every day in ways big and small, from the student who chooses to sit with the new kid at lunch, to groups of youth fundraising for the victims of Hurricane Irma. Through service projects or kind acts, young people develop empathy, learn powerful life skills and can be the catalysts to keep Kindness Rising!
What will youth learn?
Through service with YSA, youth develop the skills necessary to succeed in school, work and life –– skills like empathy, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. They will come away with an appreciation for difference, an awareness of how their work fits into the UN’s 17 Global Goals, and the knowledge that they can make a real difference in their community.
About BE FEARLESS BE KIND
BE FEARLESS BE KIND is Hasbro’s signature philanthropic initiative. It’s designed to inspire and empower kids to have the compassion, empathy and courage to stand up for others, be inclusive throughout their lives, and know that they have the ability to make a difference.
The goal of BE FEARLESS BE KIND is to elevate this issue and provide resources to help parents, educators, caring adults and kids everywhere with the ultimate goal of building a kinder generation. A generation where all kids are included; where differences are appreciated; where empathy and compassion are nurtured in kids, and where kids take action to make a difference in the world.
Hasbro is partnering with a best-in-class coalition of national and global non-profit partners that recognize the importance of developing empathy in kids and teens and whose programs place youth at the center of change. The partners include Creative Visions’ Rock Your World, Kids for Peace’s Great Kindness Challenge, Stand for Children’s Middle School Kindness Challenge, No Bully, Special Olympics’ Unified Schools, World’s Largest Lesson in partnership with UNICEF and YSA’s #LeadASAP.

#LeadASAP is YSA’s primary initiative to activate youth to find their voice, take action, and improve their communities this school year through four main youth-led project strategies: Awareness, Service, Advocacy and Philanthropy (ASAP). Through service to their community, youth gain powerful 21st century skills like empathy, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication – skills they need to be successful in school, work, and life. On top of that, each youth-led ASAP project will impact one of the United Nations’ 17 Global Goals.
YSA works with schools, youth development organizations, and community-based organizations to call on youth to #LeadASAP by providing inspiring campaigns and grants, and delivering training, technical assistance, and recognition to support quality youth-led ASAP project experiences. The goal of the #LeadASAP initiative is to activate 500,000 youth (30% from underserved communities) through 10,000 youth-led service projects this school year.
