UNHCR leads international action to protect people forced to flee their homes, delivering life-saving assistance like shelter, food and water to help safeguard fundamental human rights and ensuring safety and dignity. With 9,700 staff working in over 125 countries, we use our expertise to protect and care for around 60 million people worldwide.
The UNHCR Representation Office in Harare, Zimbabwe is looking for an intern (graduate) who has commitment to refugee issues and a desire to development their skills and experience in programme management and humanitarian affairs. The candidates should be computer literate, have good numerical skills, organized and proactive with ability to maintain high level of confidentiality at all times. Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and attention to detail are essentials. The position is full time and unpaid.
Please Note there should be no expectation of employments at the end of the internship and per UNHCR rules, an intern may not apply for a position with UNHCR until six months have lapsed from the end of their internship.
Key duties and responsibilities
Collects, registers and maintains information on administrative issues; Assists in record keeping and filing of all administration related documentation; Prepares status and progress reports, prepare tables and draft routine correspondence; Assist in preparing periodic and ad-hoc reports on operational activities for presentation; Prepare background material for use in discussions and briefing sessions; Undertake proper collection, monitoring and use of baselines, standards and indicators needed to measure and analyse administration performance, trends and target interventions; Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, skills, experience
Computer skills (Word, excel and, PowerPoint); Project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation skills; Ability to work as a part of a team; Highly structured and organised; Excellent analytical skills and ability to identify problems and propose solutions; Efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; Strong inter-personal skills; Ability to build trust and develop and maintain effective work relationships with sensitivity and respect for diversity and inclusive participation; Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; Team Work/Communication/Self-
University Graduate with a back ground in business administration, accounting, finance or other relevant discipline; Excellent written and spoken English is required.
