IHS awards Humane Studies Fellowships of up to $15,000 to graduate students and outstanding undergraduates planning academic careers with liberty-advancing research interests.
Last year, we awarded more than $650,000 to 190 students pursuing degrees at universities worldwide. They study in disciplines such as sociology, economics, psychology, history, law, and philosophy.
The fellows are researching ideas that will further individual liberty – ideas such as the influence of historical events upon contemporary laws, how individuals respond to government restrictions, and potential new institutions and approaches that maximize freedom of action. Read more…

The Asia Research Institute of NUS invites applications from citizens of Asian countries enrolled for a fulltime advanced degree at a university in an Asian country (except Singapore) for consideration for the award of Asian Graduate Student Fellowships.
These fellowships are offered to current graduate students doing their Master’s or PhD degrees and working in the Humanities and Social Sciences on Southeast Asian topics, and will allow the recipients to be based at NUS for an ‘in residence fellowship’ for a period of three months.
The aim of the fellowship is to enable scholars to make full use of the wide range of resources held in the libraries of NUS and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. Scholars will be expected to commence on 3 May 2011, and to make a presentation on their work at the Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies at the end of July 2011.

The Program in Law and Public Affairs (LAPA) at Princeton University invites outstanding faculty, independent scholars, lawyers, and judges to apply for appointments as residential fellows for the academic year. Each year, through its Fellows program, LAPA brings to Princeton world-class experts on the law.
Successful candidates will devote an academic year in residence at Princeton engaging in their own research and in the intellectual life of the campus. Under exceptional circumstances, applications for only one semester in residence may be considered.
The Fellows program is open to all regardless of citizenship, but it does not support work toward the completion of a degree.

University of Kansas (USA) — Community Tool Box
The Community Tool Box announces the 2010 “Out of the Box” prize to honor innovative efforts for community development anywhere in the world. Cash awards are US$5 thousand and US$2 thousand. Community groups (e.g., NGOs, associations, etc.) describe how they approached challenges of development, environment, poverty, and other community issues. Applications will be reviewed by an international panel. Deadline for submissions is 31 October 2010.

International Institute for Impact Evaluation (3ie) — Policy Window 1
3ie makes grants to evaluate the impacts of development programs and projects, and to prioritize knowledge gaps within certain developmental areas. Grants are to international research teams experienced in impact evaluation in partnership with local researchers. The latest call for proposals in Policy Window 1 includes a program area on food insecurity in Burundi, with reference to agriculture and environment. Various other program areas and countries are noted in the same call. The proposal deadline is 13 September 2011.

The PADI Foundation invites applications for its worldwide grants in underwater science, environmental projects, and education. Most grants are US$5 thousand to US$10 thousand. German Education Ministry — Climate Change and Developing Countries
The German Education Ministry (BMBF) funds CLIENT — “International Partnerships for Sustainable Technologies and Services for Climate Protection and the Environment.” CLIENT makes grants for German research in collaboration with partners in Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and Vietnam. Priorities in CLIENT are climate protection, resource efficiency, land management, and water management. In the first phase of applications, the German partner sends a detailed project outline to BMBF before 31 August 2010.

International Development Research Center — Graduate Research on Climate Change and Water
Canada’s IDRC invites applications for research grants on climate change and water in 2010-2011. Bioversity International — Agricultural Genetic Resources 2011
Bioversity International announces the Vavilov-Frankel fellowships for 2011. Up to two grants of US$20 thousand each will support young researchers in themes of conserving and using genetic resources in agriculture. Proposals are invited from researchers in low and middle-income countries who are under age 35. Closing date is 07 November 2010.
