The Scientific and Parallel Computing and Imaging (ICPS) group is seeking very good candidates for the following subject. Applicants shall have a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or in a related discipline. “Welfare state legitimacy: cross-national analyses from a multi-dimensional perspective”
“Individual and social effects of income inequality”
The main task of the candidates is to carry out theoretical and empirical analyses of the individual level and context level determinants of (project 1) welfare state legitimacy as a multi-dimensional phenomenon, or (project 2) the individual and social effects of income inequality in countries. In addition to their research, candidates will follow taught courses to develop their theoretical and methodological skills, and they will participate as teaching assistants in the sociology courses of the department.

In 1987, the World Bank, with funding from the Government of Japan, established the World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (WBGSP) for graduate studies in subjects related to economic development. Each year, the Program awards scholarships to individuals from World Bank member countries to undertake graduate studies at renowned universities throughout member countries of the Bank.
Now in its 23d year, the Regular Program has awarded 3,153 scholarships, selected from 58,944 applicants. In addition, 1,226 scholarships have been awarded in the various JJ/WBGSP Partnership Programs for a total of 4,379 awards.
The objective of the Scholarship and Fellowship Programs is to help create an international community of highly-trained professionals working in the field of economic and social development. The community will actively participate in the capacity building efforts in the developing countries.

The Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences of Maastricht University opens five fully funded PhD positions in the field of arts and social sciences. PhD candidates will receive a coherent programme of introductory courses and intensive supervision, complemented by additional courses organized by a national graduate school.
The programme is characterized by its interdisciplinary approach and its international character, focused on three topics:
1. European Administrative Governance;
2. Science, Technology and Society, including Globalization and Development;
3. Cultural Memory and Diversity (see below)
PhD candidates are offered a 3 or 4 year contract, a competitive salary and a bench fee to cover research-related costs. The condition of a 4 year contract is to undertake a limited amount of teaching duties.
