PhD in Sociology, The Netherlands

The department of Sociology, Tilburg University, The Netherlands announces two opened PhD positions in Sociology with the title of projects:
“Welfare state legitimacy: cross-national analyses from a multi-dimensional perspective”
“Individual and social effects of income inequality”

The main task of the candidates is to carry out theoretical and empirical analyses of the individual level and context level determinants of (project 1) welfare state legitimacy as a multi-dimensional phenomenon, or (project 2) the individual and social effects of income inequality in countries. In addition to their research, candidates will follow taught courses to develop their theoretical and methodological skills, and they will participate as teaching assistants in the sociology courses of the department.

[Portugal] Master Student in Linguistics at University of Porto

Applications are now being accepted for the MA Course and the PhD Courses in Linguistics. The deadline is July 14th (first period) and September 12th (second period).
The MA Course is a two years program, with the second year dedicated to the elaboration of a dissertation. The first year includes the teaching of the fundamental areas in Linguistics – Psycholinguistics, Semantics, Syntax, Phonology, Text / Discourse – with the possibility of choosing Historical Linguistics, Computational Linguistics and History of Grammar. [UK] The University of the West of England 2009 Research Studentships in Social Science and Humanities

The Faculty welcomes applications for 7 full-time PhD studentships.

They will be able to answer any general queries and also to put you in touch with the relevant subject specialists if you have an academic query or wish to discuss your proposal in more detail.

We will expect proposals to have a clear outcome in terms of impact, whether this be social, economic, intellectual or cultural. To this end it is expected that projects will involve a clear dissemination strategy.

At least one studentship will be appointed in Education, History, Law and Linguistics

Applications are also invited from students with an interest in Social policy, Criminal justice, Psycho-social studies, Philosophy, English or Human rights

These are fully funded, three year full-time studentships. Students will receive the standard Research Council rate which will be £13,290 in 2009/10. In exceptional circumstances it may be possible to award a bursary on a part-time basis. The duration of the full-time studentship will normally be for 3 years, subject to satisfactory annual progress reports.
